Long before there was The Phoenix, in the early 1970s Jerry McDermott and his wife Linda visited San Pedro and fell in love with the sleepy fishing village and built The Paradise Resort Hotel. For many years, the Paradise's bar and dock were a favorite among locals, while its thatch cabanas were a rustic getaway for many of the first visitors to Ambergris Caye.
They sold the hotel in 1991 and moved to the mainland of Belize. In 2004 Jerry and Linda bought the resort back and took down The Paradise Hotel in order to build The Phoenix, a larger and more luxurious resort at the same prime beachfront location in San Pedro.
The Phoenix now provides a new generation of visitors to Ambergris Caye a memorable vacation just like The Paradise did for so many years.
This prime location makes it easy for guests of The Phoenix to explore the charming town of San Pedro and relax in the luxury of The Phoenix each night without the need to take a water taxi or a long golf cart or car taxi ride to and from town. That is necessary when traveling from other resorts located north and south of San Pedro.
The Phoenix is also a 2 to 3 minute drive from San Pedro’s airstrip. The Phoenix provides complimentary ground transportation to and from the airstrip for its guests. Our Guest Services staff can also arrange the 15 minute domestic air transfers from Belize City (BZE) to San Pedro (SPR) or assist in arranging other domestic air itineraries if coming from a different location in Belize.
To reach Belize, guests typically fly United, American, Delta, U.S. Air, or Taca via Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, Newark, Los Angeles, or San Salvador. All international arrivals occur at Philip S. Goldson International Airport (BZE) located outside of Belize City. From there our Guest Services staff can arrange round trip domestic transfers to San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye, where our resort is located.
